Pumpkin Posey

blog 1

Despite each years desperate attempt to prematurely push us into the holiday season, I refuse to let harvest season become a thing of the past. It’s a time to unwind from my “get-up and go” summertime mentality. Of course the changing of the leaves is absolutely breathtaking and that first evening of crisp cool air, with a hint of chimney smoke, is totally refreshing but nothing will hold a piece of my heart bigger than a good ol’ fashion pumpkin.
I LOVE pumpkins. I can’t imagine life without them. From pumpkin spiced sweet-smelling lotions to pumpkin pie scented candles, I’ve got ’em all. My front porch proudly displays pumpkins like trophies until it’s time to go back into the earth. I’ve even tried my hand at growing my own pumpkins, last spring, when a ton of pumpkin seeds sprouted out of my compost bin. I like to think they would have been pretty successful too, if the love of my life (we’ll call him by his railroad nickname, J-Wiz) hadn’t accidentally run the delicate vines over with the lawn mower. Sad face!

One time I even hollowed out a large pumpkin for the sole purpose of sticking my girlfriend's 1-year-old daughter in it, just for shits and giggles. Poor thing.

Well, I have a couple of pumpkins burning a hole through my cutting board right now. I’m seeing some super simple home-made pumpkin puree in the near future. Hell, Thanksgiving is only 2 weeks away so I better start planning dessert NOW! Happy Pumpkin Season!
